Just Listen, and You’ll Hear.

John Ridley shared this story today on NPR’s Morning Edition.

Linda Keith, a close friend and early champion of guitar legend Jimi Hendrix, shared with Ridley a picture of the Hendrix she remembers. “[He] was a prodigious worker who was rarely without his guitar. The music meant more to Jimi than the artifice for which many remember him. ‘Just listen, and you’ll hear,’ Jimi would say.”

What does it mean to work? We learn from Jimi Hendrix it means to put yourself in a place where you can be inspired — where you can stay connected with and listen to your muse, the Holy Spirit — and then be prepared with your tools and gifts to respond creatively. New life will spring forth.

To do it prodigously, always? Truly a spiritual discipline.
