We Are the Church

It’s about who, not how.
It’s not about worship times or styles, or bulletins or hymnals or projection screens. It’s not about buildings. It’s not about new, hip names. It’s not about gourmet coffee. It’s not about programs.
Church is not something you go to. Church is not something you do.
Church is who you are. The Body of Christ. Disciples. Together.
Without that identity, you’re nothing more than a marketing strategy.

I found your blog! I didn’t know you had one! Excellent. One of my final papers for seminary was essentially about knowing our identity, and it always had me humming the song I learned in Sunday School that is the title of this post. Call it cheesy but all the verses got to the very heart of what church is and is not. My personal favorite: “the church is not a business a committee or a board…it’s not a corporation for the business of our Lord….”
